Before play begins, take a look around the French Roulette table online at 888Casino. Notice anything in particular? It's all written in French! That's great news for Canadian online casino players since French is one of our official languages.
You will see words like Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins a Cheval, Jeu 0, and many more. French Roulette brings the majesty of this regal table game directly to players on PC, Mac, and mobile across Canada.
The first order of business is choosing your bet size. Once you've placed your chips on your chosen numbers, the dealer spins the ball around the roulette wheel and waits for it to come to rest in a pocket. There are alternating red and black numbers, in addition to the single green 0.
There's very little a player needs to do except place bets on numbers, colours, and other combinations. The dealer takes care of the spins and the payouts and prepares the roulette wheel for the next round.
UNDERSTANDING ROULETTE BETS
There are three primary betting options available in French Roulette, including the following:
- Number Bets – You can bet on individual numbers or groups of numbers.
- Colour Bets – Bet on red or black or even the green zero.
- Odd or Even Bets – Will the next number be odd or even? There are 18 odd and 18 even numbers on the roulette wheel.
These types of bets can be divided into two broad categories - Inside Bets and Outside Bets. Let's take a look at the differences between these types of French Roulette bets:
- Inside Bets – inside bets are placed on individual numbers or groups of numbers. The roulette betting track contains 3 columns of 12 numbers and the green 0 at the top. Those are the inside bets. More specifically, inside bets include Straight Bets, Street Bets, Corner Bets, 5-Number of Bets, and Double Street Bets.
- Outside Bets – include all the bets outside the numbered combinations on the roulette betting track. These bets cover First 12, Second 12, Third 12, 1-18, 19-36, Odd or Even, Red or Black, 2 to 1, and others.
Inside Bets have a much higher payout than Outside Bets, although the frequency of Outside Bets winning is much higher.
What French Roulette Bets Mean in English
As a roulette player at 888Casino Canada, you will come across many unique terms. Some of these are listed in French – what a win! Like any other online casino game, it's important to understand the lingo.
- Plein Bets - Straight Up Bets on individual numbers.
- Cheval Bets - Split Bets placed directly on the line separating two numbers.
- Trio Bets - These bets are placed on the intersection between 0, 1 & 2, or between 0, 2 & 3.
- Transversale Pleine - Street Bets are placed at the end of rows of numbers, and include three numbers.
- Carre Bets – These are Corner Bets placed at the intersection of four numbers.
- Transversale Simple - These Line Bets are placed at the end of Two Streets, on the line linking them. These bets cover all the numbers in each Street, for a total of six numbers.
- Douzaine Bets - These are known as Dozen Bets, and they are placed in First 12, Second 12, or Third 12 boxes.
- Colonne Bets – These Column Bets are designated by ‘2 to 1’ on the roulette table. When bets are placed in one of these boxes, all 12 numbers in that box are covered. The green zero is excluded from 2 to 1 Column bets.
- Manque Bets (Low bets) – These bets include numbers 1-18, while Passe Bets(High Bets) include numbers 19-36. The green zero is excluded from these bets.
- Rouge (Red) bets cover all the red numbers while Noir (Black) bets cover all the black numbers. The green zero is excluded from these bets.
- Pair (Even) bets cover even numbers, and Impair (Odd) cover odd numbers. The green zero is excluded from these bets.
- Transversale de Quatre Bets - these are known as Four Number Bets placed at the intersection of the following numbers: 0 & 1, and including 0, 1, 2 & 3.
Unique Rules Only Available in French Roulette
There are two unique rules only available in French Roulette. These rules can reduce the house edge from 2.70% down to as little as 1.35%. The house edge indicates the casino’s long-term advantage over the player. In American Roulette, the house edge is 5.26%, and in European Roulette, the house edge is 2.70%. Let's take a look at these two French Roulette rules:
La Partage
When this rule is in play, all even money bets (1:1 payouts) are partially protected if the roulette ball lands on 0. Players will only lose 50% of their original bet when La Partage is in play. All even-money bets are covered, including Red or Black, Odd or Even, 1-18, and 19-36.
En Prison
Similar to the La Partage rule, En Prison also covers even-money bets (1:1 payouts). If you have placed an even-money bet with this rule, and zero lands, your bet is effectively imprisoned. If, on the next spin, the player wins, the original bet from the previous round will be paid back in full. For example, if you bet on even numbers and zero lands, the bet is imprisoned until the next spin. If on the next spin you bet on even numbers and an even number lands, you will win your original bet back. This rule is rare at roulette casinos in Canada but well worth it.

Announced Bets are easily made by clicking on this particular betting option. Once the bet table appears, you can run your mouse over it for the minimum chips required for each specific Announced Bet. Click the Announced Bet from the list or from a portion of the roulette wheel. Then click autoplay or the spin button to place the Announced Bet.

Neighbour Bets in French Roulette
On the main roulette table, you will notice the Neighbour Bets option. This is another popular betting attraction for Canadian online casino players. You can bet on numbers directly next to a specific number on the roulette wheel, a.k.a. the neighbours. For example, a Neighbour Bet on the number 31 will automatically place bets on 9 and 14. A neighbor bet on the number 18 will automatically place bets on 22 and 29. In other words, numbers directly to the left and right of those specific roulette numbers will be bet on. In French Roulette, you are limited to 4 numbers.
How to Place Neighbor Bets:
- Choose between 1 - 4 neighbour bets that would like to place.
- Choose the number you want to place a neighbour bet on.
- Click Spin.
Hot & Cold Numbers Betting
With French Roulette, playing the five most commonly hit numbers and the five least commonly hit numbers within the history box is possible. These are known as hot and cold numbers respectively.
Autoplay Functionality
This unique feature allows you to play a set number of spins automatically. Simply click spin, and the casino software will take care of the rest.
Auto Roulette blends autoplay functionality with live roulette games. At 888casino Canada, you can experience live roulette with an auto-dealer that keeps the action going in real-time. It's a great way for dealers to get some shut-eye, and the action never stops with Live Auto Roulette.
