Spin outcome stats of a biased wheel

The ROULETTE WHEEL

The roulette wheel is a mechanical thing and as such it can suffer from mechanical errors; the bearings, for example, can wear out. The casinos are, naturally, aware of that, recording every spin to find any trace of a bias. If they find anything, and also at regular intervals, the wheels are maintained. But as a bias can start to show anytime, and the wheels rarely are maintained during the open hours, these systems try to utilize any trace of bias as quickly as possible.

What we are looking for is, essentially, repeating numbers and then, hopefully, repeating numbers that repeat too many times to be natural fluctuation. They may repeat from next to any amount of spins, depending on who teaches you the system, and if we look for plain repeaters they call it “hot numbers” or “Pivot”… If we look for repeaters in sections of the wheel, they call it “bias” or “sector” betting. But it’s the same basics: look for repeaters.

WHEEL BIAS

It can be detected when tracking a roulette wheel for a long time. Some says it is not enough with less than a thousand spins, while others says it suffice with a day. Let’s try it. The first thing to do is to track every spin for a complete day, recording how many times each number won. We can do that in wheel order (i.e. you arrange the lay-out for the recording in the same order as the numbers appear on the wheel) in order to easily see if there are any sections of the wheel that gets a lot of hits. This is the result (single zero) for SPIELBANK HAMBURG Oct 4th 1999:

First line shows numbers in wheel order (single zero wheel)
Second line shows how many times the above number won
Third line marks the 5 numbers that hit more than 11 times
Fourth line marks the 10 numbers that hit more than 10 times

0 32 15 19 4 21 2 25 17 34 6 27 13 36 11 30 8 23
 8 5 12 7 4 7 6 6 5 6 5 9 8 11 9 4 11 10
       X

10 5 24 16 33 1 20 14 31 9 22 18 29 7 28 12 35 3 26
 6 13 11 11 5 11 7 12 7 5 5 3 13 9 12 10 7 7 7
    X X X X

There are some things to notice here. First of all, the top hitting numbers are separated numbers, with the exception of two (29 – 28) and also; those two numbers are separated from the rest when taking 11-hitters into account making sections (“sectors”) of the wheel visible. One section to notice is 5 – 24 – 16 – 33 – 1 – 20 – 14.

For the betting we can do several things. The first is to bet the five top hitting numbers. The second must be to bet the seven number section 5 – – 14. But also; the same section can be a lot bigger if completed with the section 36 – – 10, thus giving a 13-number section 36 – – 14. There is also the small section 29 – 7 – 28 to consider.

As there were 280 spins next day (Oct 5 1999) it means that for the four different betting you payed 280 * 5 = 1400, 280 * 7 = 1960, 280 * 13 = 3640 and 280 * 3 = 840 units respectively, if you flat bet only. The result:

0 32 15 19 4 21 2 25 17 34 6 27 13 36 11 30 8 23
4 7 12 9 7 5 3 6 6 5 9 5 11 11 9 10 2 5

10 5 24 16 33 1 20 14 31 9 22 18 29 7 28 12 35 3 26
10 8 10 6 5 8 8 8 9 7 7 8 6 7 10 6 15 7 9

As you can see of the second line, for the five-number betting the total of hits were 12 + 8 + 8 + 6 + 10 = 44 that gave back a total of 44 * 36 = 1584 units, giving a positive net result of 184 units! For the seven-numbers the total number of hits were 53, giving back 1908 units making a net result of 52 on the negative side. The 13-number betting had a total of 99 hits, giving 3564 back and the net result is minus 76 units. And the 3-numbers 29 – 7 – 28 hitted a total of 23 times, giving 828 units back meaning a net result of 12 units down.

THIS IS THE BASICS for detecting wheel bias. Do NOT think that simply betting the top hitting numbers from yesterday will win all the time! They don’t! I selected those days for this example.

DEALER BIAS

This is much harder to detect, as dealer changes take place very often – between every 15th to 20th spin is normal according to the material at hand. The basics are not far from detecting a wheel bias but must, naturally, be much quicker when it comes to decision of the numbers to bet – you can hardly count on having more than twelve spins for recording if you want to bet some…

HOT NUMBERS

What we call hot roulette numbers are, quite simply put, repeating numbers. Most of the systems dealing with hot numbers say something like this: When a number has hit X times in Y spins, it is considered as “hot” and you bet that number for Z spins.

For example: When a number has hit 3 times in 36 spins, you bet it for 36 spins or until your number hits. If the number wins, you stop betting and start recording again with that hit as the first hit of three within 36 spins (the hit also being the first spin of 36). And, you could of course keep on recording and betting more than one number simultaneously. We can try it… The same day as above – SPIELBANK HAMBURG Oct 4th 1999 (294 spins):

AGAIN: THIS DAY WAS SELECTED TO SHOW AN EXAMPLE of hot numbers. Please do not think that this is valid for all visits to any live casino!

As you can see from the above, the bank-roll was up at +219 units and then dropped to +24, before going up again. But this drop was 195 units and it could have been in the beginning as well as after 180 spins, so you must be careful and be prepared to lose your bankroll. (The Hot Numbers have been tested – click here for result) I certainly do NOT claim any of the above to be ready-made systems! I have only showed you some examples of how to utilize bias and hot numbers. The above can be varied as much as you like and if you find a variation you like, you most definitively have a system that is as good as any commercial one!

Body

I am a roulette player. Neither an “editor” nor a “mathematician”. The difference is that I put my money where my mouth is. Most roulette sites are written by editors who have never placed a bet. They recycle knowledge and recite Wikipedia. And they are paid to write. I have paid dearly for every single word I write. I have invested money, time, aspirations and grey matter in roulette.

In my 20 years as a roulette player, I have played everywhere, I have tried innumerable of roulette strategies, studied, created or dismissed countless ideas and done all the mistakes you could possibly do. I learned and I’m here to tell you about it. I can’t fight luck and i can’t control randomness. But I do know what works and what doesn’t, what mistakes you should avoid and what you need to win.

Roulette 30
In June 2010, disappointed by misinformation, outrageous claims, cheating roulette games and “sure win” system and device sellers, I created “Roulette 30”. I wanted to share knowledge, inspire other roulette players to make the next step in their game. It is as a very personal project. Everything, from the articles and the design to the last line of code is handcrafted with love by myself! I started it out of love for the game and since then Roulette 30 became a passion into itself.

At Roulette 30 we strive to create the deepest, interesting and inspirational site about the game of roulette. In this site I've shared as much as I can. Freely. Learn the basics of roulette, study the math and the physics of the wheel and then think creatively and discover new answers to old, classic roulette questions.

Roulette 30 Forum
This is the best place for serious roulette discussion. With a knowledgeable and friendly roulette community. I have already written almost 2K posts in the forum. Everyone is welcome to ask or comment on anything about roulette.

Kavouras Bet
After many years of people asking me about my personal roulette strategy, with reluctance and great care I decided to share all the details of the Kavouras Bet system. In that site you will learn everything you need to know about it.

These are the articles I have written I’m most proud of:

  • Kavouras Bet strategy
  • Roulette Wheel secrets
  • The Romanosky bets strategy
  • Bets and payouts of roulette
  • Analysis of Labouchere progression
  • Debunking the myth that the house edge is a game-stopper

Beyond roulette

I’m a restless soul, a novelty seeker, a different viewer.
I’m a Sagittarius with a touch of Pisces and Scorpio.
I was born in 1970.
I have studied Physics in the university of Athens, but never worked as a physicist.
I worked 15 years as a copywriter and creative director in advertising companies
I love Alfa Romeos, Italo Disco, ASIA, Nietzsche and dark haired women, though I have better luck with light haired ones.
I’m a loner and sentimental. I love philosophizing and reading. I’m smart, but I’m lazy, dilatory and a perfectionist, so I rarely accomplish anything.
That’s my story.
